Is French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker The Greatest Thing There Ever Was?
French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review
Melding form with function, French-door refrigerators offer stylish double doors that open up to a spacious fridge up the top and a freezer drawer beneath. Special features like through-the-door dispensers, higher-end ice machines and adjustable flex drawers make them stand out from the crowd.
We consulted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right one. They considered the capacity of storage and layout, energy efficiency, and other aspects.
GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The name of the series suggests that GE’s Profile series is aimed at consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all from a Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator costs a premium, I expect higher quality.
This fridge is a great option, despite the slight blip. It features a large freezer compartment, which is unusual for counter-depth French-door fridges. It also holds plenty of frozen food, which is a big difference from other models.
Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment is 18.5 cubic feet, which is standard for a fridge with a French door at this price. It also has a decent sized ice maker packed into the left door, but it isn't the largest I've seen.
You can adjust the shelves in both compartments to make the perfect storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is stylish, too. The LED lighting adds an appealing feature. The bins for storage inside include a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall items. The drawers are equipped with temperature controls so you can set them for Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their plastic textured coatings to be a little hard on the fingers.
The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator in this price range. It has Wi-Fi as well as app support, and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices and lets you manage your refrigerator from anywhere around the world. It also comes with a lot of customization options. It will also send notifications when the door is unlocked, when the fridge or freezer must be defrosted and when the filter has to be changed.
It is nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill it's an option in a few other GE refrigerators that allows you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to disperse simultaneously. It also has a countdown on the fridge's display to display how much water have left, but it's not as useful as Precise fill.
Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
It is designed to look like a seamless part of your kitchen Bosch's French door refrigerator is an eye-catching piece. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also features a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer periods, and dual compressors to preserve food items. The Ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient and produces the shape of a pyramid using only water. This fridge is ideal for a single household or kitchenette that needs an attractive design and top of the line food preservation.
This fridge was the top-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for various reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never fluctuated more than a tiny fraction - this is crucial to avoid freezing burn. The fridge section of the fridge also performed well, achieving the temperature that was set for the initial setting within an hour and maintaining that temperature steady throughout the course of our tests.
Bosch is known for its premium appliances and appliances, so it's not a surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance, with the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi as well as Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app allows you to monitor and control your fridge from your tablet or smartphone. The fridge is expensive and has great features and functions at a fair price.
It's important to understand the limitations of the fridge. It has a limited space for shelves, so you may have to think creatively when storing tall items. The shelves aren't resistant to spills and are easily stained or damaged by sharp items. It's easy to remove the refrigerator trays however, you must clean them regularly to prevent mold growth.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who need plenty of space in the space of a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge is built with an ordinary French door design, with two rows of shelving with spill-capture and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf to the right can be folded to provide more space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer to store products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.
This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker making it simple to transfer frozen ice as needed. The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, for instance, sliding drawers to help you better organize the position of items. It also has a large bin that can accommodate plenty of frozen food and an container for storing ice.
Another great feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can manage the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your fridge using your smartphone. It's a simple method to keep track of your fridge and manage it, particularly when you're not at home.
However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it does not necessarily enhance the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than some of the others we tested. This could be due to its bigger capacity.

Another issue with the doors of this refrigerator. They have sunken handles on the front, which allow shorter people to easily open them from the bottom, but they're difficult for taller people to steer closed without slamming the doors. It would have been better if they had front-mounted handles.
The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent option for those looking to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with more efficient design. It has a capacity that is above average for counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. It's also less expensive than the top counter-depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which helps make it a popular choice.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
If you're looking for an French door fridge that doesn't break the bank, this Frigidaire is a good choice. It's a basic fridge which may not be as appealing as some of its competitors however, it does have enough features to make a an excellent choice. Its most notable feature is the adjustable temperature drawer, helps to keep food like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a large water and ice maker dispenser.
Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you direct a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power to this area so that you can store foods that require extra attention. This feature is adjustable using a slider on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this to set a general cooling level for the entire fridge, though I've found that adjusting the generic settings tends to produce better results than specific ones.
During my tests, I discovered that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent in different parts of the refrigerator. Temperatures at the top and bottom of the fridge didn't stray much from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a solid performance but does not quite make it to the top of our rankings.
This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be paired with a smart thermostat in order to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.
The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless with a "smudge resistant" finish. what is french door fridge blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tested.
